Your Employees Are Empowered

September 21, 2010

Your IT department blocks or filters or monitors internet access for most employees.   But that’s not keeping your staff from socializing on the web during the workday.

Your employees are empowered.

They carry smartphones and have the Internet in their pocket.   3G penetrates your office building.   They don’t need your corporate network to waste the company’s time.  This isn’t 1998.  Your employees are empowered.

  1. Hi Mike,

“Your employees are empowered. They carry smartphones and have the Internet in their pocket.”

    Spot on!

Having the internet in one’s pocket empowers employees to be an organization’s greatest brand ambassadors.

It’s only a matter of time before the boomers retire and the firewalls come down.

Thanks Tom. Great point, I am trying to get people to understand that employees should be encouraged to be brand ambassadors. What a powerful asset to any company that can successfully tap it.
Personally I think the firewalls should stay up (too much data-loss risk, regulatory requirements, cost of monitoring, etc), but that doesn’t mean people can’t be empowered to act from their own smart devices!
This post will be one in a series on The Empowered Society. Stay tuned…
